Mix Series 043: Thérèsa Ha

Fascinated by collage and synaesthesia, Clémentine Briend’s music is always linked to an inexhaustible palette of colours and textures: brightness occasionally enters dark areas, because it is between harmony and the play between contrasts that she defines her sound, slowly but surely, between the work of a selector and that of a DJ. We’re honoured to have her for this months #nowadaysmixseries.

What’s in this mixtape?

I just knew I absolutely needed to start with Manami's latest track, Dreaming Still. Released on her new label Virtual Myths Recordings, it was love at first listen. From this starting point I've built something that feels like me & my club side, including tracks by producers I've listened to a lot these last two years. If we had to put all the tracks on a map, we would be pretty much focused on the UK - but zooming out we're heading to other continents too! See the incredible producer Nthr1 from Armenia, for example. I discovered his music via SUCHI's Rinse show called Ikke Sant, where the selection is so interesting.

I see this mix as a bit of a patchwork of what I like to listen to lately - but I made sure to organize it well!

Favourite food and where?

Honestly, I'd say a taco on a random street in Mexico City or a good pasta dish in Italy. Not very original, sorry... In my city, Barcelona I'd go to la Tortilleria La Antigua de México or Fast Eddie's. Best burger in town.

Who do you look up to?

I'm mostly thinking of my friends, those from childhood I love so much and the ones I've met in recent years. They inspire me beyond words. They know how to listen to both themselves and others. And when it comes to music, it really depends on the period. I love Yu Su's selections, her sets are always surprising because of her versatility. Otherwise... I have to admit that I started mixing in part thanks to Avalon Emerson. I remember seeing her for the first time at Le Sucre in Lyon and thinking "Oh, I'd like to try my hand at mixing too!"

That classic music album we all need to know about?

More than an album it's an EP I enjoyed so much a few years ago: Transfer Station Blue by Michael Shrives, Klaus Schulze and Kevin Shrives. I listened to it again with some friends while driving in the Azores... pure magic. Special mention to track 3.

Somewhere you would like to live and get old?

I'd say close to nature and my loved ones.
